Day -2 First competition of the Rio Olympics: Women’s Soccer!

There are a lot of photographers itching to get going and start shooting actual events, so it was nice to get a jump start on the Games with football starting on Day -2. One of the sites for football is at Olympic Stadium, which is also the site for the athletics, it was quiet enjoyable shooting SWE vs RSA and BRA v CHI, especially with all of the Brazilian fans! Here are a couple of my favorite plus some behind the scenes. The Rio Olympic Games!!!

Well I have to apologize as I have went dark on my blog posts for some time. But what better time to start it up again on the eve of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. I have the honor and pleasure to be working with some of the best in the business as part of the photography team for Sports Illustrated. Some of the team has been down here already for a month, setting up at the office, wiring venues for Internet and robotic cameras, and everything else that is needed to make the Games run smoothly. Its truly mind boggling how much work goes into an event like this. It’s been nine years since my last visit to Rio for the 2007 Pan American games, and a lot has been built for this massive event (and is still being built) as I write this on a media bus heading to a Olympic Stadium.

I will try my best over the next 18 days or so to give you guys a behind the scenes of what it’s like to cover the largest sporting event in the world. There will be a lot of high and lows over the next month, but all and all its the pinacle of sports and what I live for as a sports photographer. Hope you enjoy the journey with me and as always your feedback and comments are appreciated!!!

Cheers,

Donald
